This reversible Silk Face Mask printed with the art of artist Bill Market, is inspired by landscapes of Western Canada. Its contrasting colors form a geometric beauty magnified by the shine of mulberry silk. 

Designed according to scientific recommendations with 2 layers of fabric (mulberry silk and organic cotton), a filter pocket and a nose clip, it naturally provides the highest filtration efficiency and the best comfort for the skin.

    William (Bill) Market was born in Montreal into an anglophone family in 1949. He spent more than 40 years of his life in a mental institution, only to get out at the age of 65. He has been participating at the workshops of the association Les Impatients since 2002, where he devotes his time to a wide range of art, including beautiful musical creations. His inspiration centers mainly around two themes; depictions of weavings and landscapes.

    The first comprises beautiful quilts on paper that Bill invented himself with the help of a mysterious equation, of which he is the sole proprietor. He starts these pieces by tracing a complex system of lines with a lead pencil, carefully counting each line, followed by him filling in the gaps with pastel colored markers or crayons to create psychedelic and geometric gems.
    Market’s landscape art works in a similar fashion. With precise borders first drawn in lead, he then fills in once again shapes with different colors. The contrasting colors lend a geometric beauty to nature. For a man who spent a large part of his life in an institution, the lush landscapes are a reminder of a beautiful vacation in Western Canada, which represents freedom.

    ART OF SILK FACE MASKS

    Based in Montréal, Québec, Nathon Kong works with local artisans to sew each silk face mask by hand. Mulberry silk is the finest quality of silk available in the world but also the most difficult to sew and demand a specific training.

    Designed by a scientist and based on scientific search, this face mask allow the best natural filtration and comfort to breathe.

    For more protection, you can add a DIY filter or surgical mask inside the mask. 

     

     

    The printed part of the mask is a limited and numbered reproduction of an artwork signed by artists struggling with mental health issues and participating in art programs led by the non profit organisation Les Impatients.

    You can also use the washing machine and dryer on delicate program. However, we alert you to the undesirable effects that this could cause on fabrics such as silk.

    Inspire - hidden gems

    So I finally got my package and although i saw it on the news and visited the website it was still awe inspiring to open the package and see the beauty inside. I purchased 2; one for myself and one for my daughter.
    The artists we chose are hidden gems no longer and while our artist Pierre Ostiguy is no longer here, both he and Bill Market are brilliant GEMS! I truly hope this will help others suffering with mental illness also find their way to shine.
    We love, love the pieces we chose.
    I only wish each piece came in their own envelope.
