The short answer is no. Not really.

Rule zero of fashion is there are no rules in fashion. There are trends, especially when it comes to wearing a tuxedo, but you can always deviate from a trend if you feel like it is the right thing to do.

There is a reason why you don't often see men wearing a necktie with a tuxedo. It has to do with when you wear a tuxedo and when you wear a bow tie or a necktie.

Most men only wear a tuxedo for very formal evening events. Unless a man has a very particular style, bow ties are also considered a formal men's fashion accessory.
